How does this system work?

On the QuickSearch page of JagAds simply select a category and click 'View Ads'. The default results format of a QuickSearch is in 'headline' format.

The menu allows you to search for and place (modify, or delete) ads. If you place an ad, you will be asked to select a password for that ad. You will also be given an ad number. In the future, anytime that you want to modify or delete that ad, you will need to know the ad number and password, which you will find in a confirmatory e-mail.

If your e-mail address proves to be incorrect, an 'E' will be placed after your trading status, and the ad may be deleted. eg [Private] E

How do I post a 'Private' ad?

On the menu, click the 'Post / Edit your Ad' button, then 'Place an Ad'. You will see a form with many fields. When you have filled out the form, click on the "Preview My Ad" button. You should check the preview for errors, before clicking the "Post My Ad" button. You should then see an acknowledgement page if your ad was successfully posted. You will also be given an ad number. Please make a note of your password and the ad number, because you will need these if you ever want to modify or delete your ad.

How do I post a 'Trade' ad?

The process is similar to that for posting a 'Private Ad'. However, since we charge for Trade Ads your posting will not be visible until payment has been made. You can pay by cheque or by credit card, using fax or post.

Please note that by law you must declare your trading name and whether VAT is included in your prices.

Will my Ad appear in Jaguar Enthusiast or Jaguar World Monthly?

Not 'Private' Ads. (except for Ads placed by JEC members, via the Member Zone).

Traders placing Ads can opt to have their Ads included in either magazine (£10), or both (£20).

Does that include pictures? One picture may be included with your Ad, subject to editorial discretion. (Details are given, with your confirmation e-mail).

Do I have to use my real name when posting an ad?

Not for 'Private' Ads. The script will simply publish whatever you put in the name field, but it makes sense to use a contact name eg John. We suggest that you don't put your surname, as a security measure.

Traders however, must by law, declare their trading name.

Can I put HTML tags anywhere in my posts?

No. You can not use HTML tags in the body of the message. If you put HTML tags in your message, the script will just throw out everything in between the <>'s. You can however, enter your website URL as plain text.

What should I put in the "Text of Ad" box?

Please describe the item that you are trying to sell or buy in as much detail as you can. If you are selling a car, don't forget to state a price! Does it have a Full Service History? What mileage has it done? Has it been restored?

You may wish to visit the 'Office of Fair Trading' site for valuable information relating to the buying and selling of cars. The 'Valuations' link provides JEC Insurance valuations for popular Jaguar models.

Why didn't my classified ad show up?

Your classified ad most likely did not show up because either you were in the wrong category or you specified search criteria that don't appear in your ad. If so, please verify that you selected the correct category and then broaden your search. If you posted a Trade Ad, then it will only be visible when payment has been received.

If you entered the correct information, your ad will be displayed with a modification form beneath it. The current information from your ad will already be filled in, so you only need to modify the fields that you want to change. Errors and cheapskate 'dealers'

We encourage people to e-mail us with details of errors and are especially interested in 'Traders' who post 'Private' Ads.

Would you buy a used car from a 'dealer' too stingy to pay £10 for an Ad?

If you are suspicous that a 'Private' advertiser may, in fact, be a Trader, click on 'All Ads' (Full Ads). Multiple adverts, may arouse concern.
